The 2009 Tiger Football season has been a number one bestseller so far this season as we progress further and further into the novel of our lives. Despite the ups and downs during the games, the Tigers have so far gone undefeated with a 7-0 record, leading into the last two regular season games of the year.
The most recent chapter, this past Friday for Homecoming was an intense one. The Tigers had not defeated GET in the past two years in football, but sent GET stumbling back home in the cold with a 34-15 victory for the Tigers. It was the most complete game that the Tigers had played so far this season, both offensively and defensively.
This week, the Tigers take on the second-leading rusher in the state, Dillon Bean of Westby. This chapter is sure to be another intense one, but the Tigers are going to try to put together a four-quarter ball game and walk away 8-0, with a defense starving for more "Beans."

Many people think about cross country as a bunch of people getting together and going for a run. It's true, we do run, but we do much more than that. Our weeks usually consist of a "tempo distance run", where we go on a longer, but faster run. One night we have intervals (our hard nights), which truly takes a lot of mental toughness to get through. On Wednesdays we swin. We do a workout in the pool to kind of rest, but still work out after our hard nights. One night we put ourselves through pain, by choice, and run hard in a cross country meet. The other night during our week, we usually have a "loosening" night where we go on an easy run. Twise a week we also lift weights and do abs every night. For those of us on the girls team, we do have fun while working hard.

If you have ever been around cross country runners, it is not uncommon to hear them talk abouth the practice they just got done with or the practice they are not looking forward to. Our practice schedule is all organized and prepares us for the days we have races. We do this by having days where we run long distances. The long distance days consist of everyone going for a run that is usuall about 45-60 minutes long. Along with distance days, we have pool workouts one day a week to get off our legs, but still keep our heart rate up. Then there is practice that is known as intervals, which you can ocassionally hear screams and scary background music playing along with hearing the word. Intervals can be run on the track or out on the south field, in which we repeatedly run distances such as 400 or 800 meters where we try to hit a set time. We have two interval days a week which are seperated by the names of Kenyan 1 and Kenyan 2. These are the main workouts that we do on a weekly basis.
Intervals do not seem that hard but I will give youo the scenario that we dealt with yesterday (9-28-2009). After school, I walk outside to get ready for practice. When i get out there, I find that it's freezing cold, gusting winds, and of course it's raining out. So we start our practice out on the track running 400s in this weather. As we are running, we are seeing other teams start going back inside because they aren't tough enough to deal with this weather, not naming any specific team...*coughing "Cheerleaders"*...The best thing about his weather and the team running in it, is that most people weould dread this whole practice. Instead, the cross country team is saying it's the most fun practice yet...And then we would wonder why people think cross country runners are weird...
On an update for the boys, we have continued with strong finishes. On September 14, we hosted the Tri-County invite at skyline golf course in which we took first place. We followed that first place by doing the same thing at the following meet at Cadott's invite at Whispering Pines golf course on September 22.

The volleyball team had an eventful week. We had a home game against Arcadia on Tuesday. We took the co-conference leader to 5 games. After dropping the first game, we pulled together to take control of games 2 and 3. Arcadia won game 4, and then we went to a 5th deciding game. The Raiders took a quick serving start, and we struggled to return the ball. We played well overall, and it was really exciting to show how good we can actually look. We just need to put it all together now.
Last night (The 17th) we took a 3 game loss to GET. As a team, we were not as strong as usual. This game well be a learning experience.
This weekend there is a J.V. Tournament in town on Saturday and we encourage everyone to go and support the J.V. girls. The event well start at 9:00 AM. Otherwise next week we have a home game on Tuesday and on Thursday we play at Luther. Tuesday will be a very special night for us,. as it will be the "Play for Zak Rios" night. Emiley Rios' brother has Lukemia, and is recieving treatments, and we are taking Tuesday to support him. We really want to pack the gym, and since the color for Lukemia is orange, we want to have a total orange out! Please come out on Tuesday to watch and support one of our classmates.

The start of the cross country season has been unique compared to past seasons, for a few different reasons. Usually if you went to see the boys team at a meet, you would see about 10 -15 runners wearing black jerseys that would stick to their skin. This year, you world see over 20 boys with new bright orange jerseys.
As for competition, they have competed in three meets. The boys team has done pretty well with two 2nd place finishes and one 3rd place finish.

The cross country team has already completed four weeks of our season. The girls team started off small with only eight runners, however, now we have mde it up to eleven. We got to start off out competing season with new uniforms! After 11 years we finally got them. Showing up to our first meet in Westby was really cool getting to show off the new team jerseys.
So far this year, we have competed in 3 cross country meets. The girls team has placed 7th, 5th, and pulled a 1st in Adams-Friendship
