BRF Cheerleading
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cheerleaders are tough, agile, swift, confident performers and spirit spreaders but most of all they are underestimated.
Cheerleading involves a lot more than just getting you, the student, riled up for the school's multiple athletic events, it also involves dedication and strenuous practices. We practice every day after school until 5:30, sometimes in uncomportably warm weather. Every day of the week we have a different type of practice.
Monday is dance day! The weekend before jour home games, many of the cheerleaders meet and piece together a performance, and then on Monday it is taught to the squad to perform at Friday night's football game.
On Tuesday, we practice the most difficult part of being a cheerleader, stunting. All of the stunts that the cheerleaders do are very difficult, and some, if done incorrectly can even be dangerous. For this reason, we work incredibly hard and practice our stunts carefully until perfected.
Wednesday, instead of practicing, we meet after school for Pep Club. During meetings we paint "Spirit Signs" to hang in the cafeteria and work on what we will do for this year's Homecoming Week. Contrary to popular belief, anyone can attend Pep Club meetings and we would love if more students participated inthis wonderful organization. For Homecoming, Pep Club organizes everything from dress up days to decorating for the dance.
Thursday is our run-through day, or the day that we perfect and tweak our performance for the football game. Run-throughs aren't the only thing that make Thursdays os special, it's also Drill Day with Mr. Cork. He provides a circuit training program that we, the cheerleaders, along with Wrestling and Cross Country teams participate in. Quoting Mr. Cork "The Cheerleaders are by far the most driven group I work with." This was a large honor to us due to the hard work the other groups he is involved with have also put in. Then of course there is Friday. This is the day that the cheerleaders get to get all dressed up for the game.
On Friday, we also bring in treats for our football players and bring in gifts for our much loved cheer buddies. After school, we are off to the football game to end our week.
We work behind the scenes much of the time, and we do a lot for our school. And guess what? We really LOVE doing it. So next time you see a "Spirit Sign" in the cafeteria, see us at the game, or are grabbing treats out of Mr. Janke's room, remember we work hard for you!
